Navigating the Harbour
Our slip way provides 20m in length and width into the drying harbour bed over which 4-wheel drive vehicles can drive with care at low water. And to make things easier, you can make use of our slipway pontoon whilst you arrange storage for your trailer or vehicle.
Visitors should contact the Harbourmaster when planning their passage to confirm depth available. We can accommodate vessels of up to 10m with depth of up to 1.5m.
Radio: VHF channel 16, working channel 14.
Visiting leisure craft can berth against the pontoon that has been provided, which runs the left-hand side of the Harbour mouth.
Fin and long keel boats can pick up one of the visitors buoys outside the harbour or drop their anchor in the general area of these buoys.
Car parking is available, there is a large area at the top of the slipway for harbour users only. Trailers can be stored in the trailer park to the side of the harbour office.
A set of leading lights bearing 284° (T) leads clear of the outer breakwater end and into the harbour. It is provided by two lights, the rear being a fixed green light visible 9 miles, the front an occulting sectored light showing red from the leading line to the South and West, white to the North and East. All permanent navigation lights are powered by mains electricity without emergency back-up.
A buoy has been installed outside Lyme Regis harbour entrance, to mark the end of a new sewer outfall. This is a south cardinal buoy, showing a standard flashing white light, in position 50° 43.17’N, 002° 55.66’W. Although not intended as such, this is a useful fairway buoy for incoming small craft.
Please see Reeds Nautical Almanac pg 180 for full details.
Speed
A speed limit is in force within the harbour at Lyme Regis. ‘Dead Slow’ is the requirement with an understanding that this means minimum steerage way.
RNLI
There is an RNLI station at Lyme Regis with an Atlantic 85 lifeboat. To obtain lifeboat assistance, contact Solent Coastguard in the first instance.
